Even when I had medical insurance I didn't have dental.  When I got the bill 
at the dentist they would always ask about insurance.  I had a suspicion 
that they marked up the charges because they expected insurance to pay it, 
so I got charged more than necessary.

It is possible for the uninsured to negotiate rates, see the true store I 
related in an earlier email.
