Hadn't taken into account the wide rim thought. The equivalent I am
familiar with is our West Coast "lo riders" wher they put VW tires on 6"
"Chebbie" wheels, and light them up from under the fender. These are
"low", but I don't believe they last very long. I am not suggesting that
very high pressures are acceptable. Quite the opposite. I am really
saying that the sidewall pressure may even be too high. The factory
recommended inflation pressure on my MG-TD 5.50-15 Dunlop Gold Seal
tires (bias ply) was 18 psi. The car was unbearably squishy on any turn.
The English just must think the Americans want a "boulevard ride". We
never ran them at less than 28-32 psi. They lasted all of 10,000 miles,
but wore evenly, and stuck like glue (natural rubber, don'tcha know).
The Michelin X's I ran later lasted longer than the car, but didn't take
the close work as well.
My bottom line was: "Examine the tire and the handling, not the sidewall
or the manual"
