Colin,

Didn't anyone tell you that when Rootes put the steering wheel
"on the wrong side",  as you say, he swapped the pedal
application as well, for the sake of symmetry and consistency
of principle.

 The left foot operates the gas and brake, the right foot
operates the clutch, and the left hand operates the turn
signal lever.

Now the Australian export, being as they are on the other side
of the world, and upside down, use their hands, even though
the steering wheel is on the 'right" side. (I hear they steer
with their feet, just to make the rest of us look clumsy, and
physically inept)
