Scott,

When I had my TR 250 engine out for a repaint, I
decided to remove the tube for better painting access
to the block. I left the water pump housing in place,
yet was able to remove the water tube. I know this
is the backward opposite from your repair, but I wish
to make a point-- the water tube can be bent slightly
away from the block enough to be rotated and unscrew-
ed from the pump housing. But if you housing is loose
already, you may be able to angle it so you don't have
to bend the pipe.
The only things to consider with this advice is: 1) I had
the engine out of the car, and I don't know if there is
enough room in back of the pipe to allow it to be unscrewed
without hitting the bulkhead in your case; 2) the hoses were
removed, and the support tab to the rear end plate was un-
bolted already and, most importantly; 3) the exhaust and in-
take manifolds were removed when I did this, and I don't
know if this can be done with them on. But I think it can be.
Good Luck...
