Scions,

As I approach the completion of my engine build, I figure it's a good time
to open up a thread on engine break-in.

When I did my emergency re-ringing job last spring (temporary patch), I
increased my speed in 10 mph increments (from 30 to 65), every 100 miles for
the first 500 miles, combined with constantly speeding up 10 mph, then
coasting down 10 mph. (This was suggested by a lister, whose name eludes me
right now. Don Howard, maybe) This was tedious, as well as a risk to life
and limb here in the suburban New York City area. I'll do it again, because
it seems to have worked well, but if anyone has an easier procedure, I'd
like to hear it.

BTW - after the initial 30 minute run-in and also at the fist 500 miles
interval, I re-torqued the head and changed the oil and filter.

TIA,
