I expect so, but it's a lot more work to do it your way. Once it's up on 
jack stands and level, it's quite easy to get to the drain plug. Pain in the
a$% to remove the interior! As always, use good jack stands though!

An oil can with a trigger makes it easier to add if you need to top it off.
Also, at least according to TRF, GL-5 oil has additives harmful to brass.
They recommend GL-4, available from them in quarts, or from Pep Boys.
