Listers,

Thanks to everyone for the help. I may have found the problem or part of
the problem. I removed the distributor cap and found some corrosion on the
contacts. Now this is a new dist. cap (1500 miles) so I am not sure why
there was a problem or if this was even the cause of the problem I was
having. I cleaned it up and adjusted the timing. The car now runs better
than it ever has. I adjusted the idle down but only got it to 1000 or 1100.
I thought I would try and get it down to 800 or 900 this weekend. Now I
think the timing was off and the lockdown may not have been tight enough so
the distributor may have moved while I was driving.

What does everyone think? Did I fix the problem by adjusting the timing and
cleaning the cap? Or do you think it was something else.

Kyle.

hi,

i had a similar problem. reved fine, but when driving and
for me it was around 3500 rpm the engine would "buck" and kick
and actually seemed like it was cutting off.

i cleaned the fuel filter. helped, but not entirely.
check the dist. i think the rotor was i need of replacing.
never had the problem again.
but i did have a back fire at the carbs weeks later. just one
small POP at 80 mph. that was the because the diaphram in the
front carb was SHOT! torn in two places. which might have been
the problem before but somehow sealed the torn edges down.

so check those diaphrams.

hope this helps!
