Well, you _could_ always do it TR3-style ... open the bonnet to change
the heater valve setting <g>

As a slightly more practical suggestion, many Chrysler products used a
ball valve that worked quite a bit easier than the Triumph valve seems
to.  You could either replace your valve with one of those, or if you're
worried about that concours look, leave the original valve in place,
wide open, and add the Mopar valve under the dash where it can't be
seen.

If you can, disassemble the cable and make sure there are absolutely no
bends in the inner core.  The slightest kink will add greatly to the
friction.
