How do you know this ?

I believe overdrive should not be available in first or second (on a Spit)

Unfortunately, it's difficult to say from this description. The problem
could be as simple as a short in the overdrive electrical circuit, or
require a complete gearbox overhaul. I would start by disconnecting the
wire from the OD solenoid, and see if that changes the problem (the OD will
not work of course, but the question is what happens to the slip). I'm not
too familiar with this particular OD unit, so I'll let others give you the
blow by blow from there.

However, I would _not_ keep driving the car with it slipping, as you may be
turning a $5 repair into a $1500 repair. Even if the OD/gearbox already
needs to be overhauled, you are making the job more expensive.
