>Dilemma: If I am to spend time and $ on a transmission, would I not be as
well off to spend time and $ on either an OD Triumph version or a Toyota

Jim,

Since you are soliciting opinions (and opinions are like backsides:
everybody's got one but he should really keep it to himself), yes, you are
at an opportune time to consider alternatives to your non-OD transmission.
You could just shove the one you have in there and put it off for another
year or two but then do you really want to pull the interior out again?

My recommendation is to price out the Toyota 5 speed conversion and use
that as your price limit and then set out to find a Triumph OD
transmission. If and when that search fails (or you run out of
time/patience) fall back to the 5 speed.

My TR3 came with a transmission that was rather knackered and when an
opportunity came along to buy an overdrive transmission I jumped at it. As
it turns out it was also in quite good condition (all the syncro's work, no
untoward noises) and although I was in the throws of the TR8 ground-up, I
scraped up the money and bought it. And I have no regrets. And in the
long run, neither will you.

Do it.

Just my opinion.

Dave
