I never had a handle for mine, though my car does have the hole in the
radiator.

I have. The carbs have to be set just right and the last time I did it my
arm was sore for days.
BTW not only do you have to have the handle but you will likely have to
shim the engine mounts to get the pawl nut to line up with the hole in the
radiator.
BTW did I mention you need the radiator with the hole in it?
