You must have thinner hands than me. It's been a few years since I put the
fan on, but memory tells me that every time I installed that thing without
removing the radiator it involved sanding the skin off my knuckles on the
vanes of said radiator.

I'll take your word for it. Anyhoo, I like the original look of the red fan.
Not to mention that the fan noise probably covers 50% of the clattering and
clunking that the typical TR engine puts out. I mean look at the VW beetle.
Sounds like an asthmatic sewing machine. Why? No fan.

So instead of always tuning the 70 or so parts on our valve trains,
desperately attempting to accomplish the impossible, namely to achieve some
level of silence, we should just buy bigger fans. A variety should be
available to match the ailment. Rumbling lower end? That'll be a 16"
oversize. Wheel bearings? Add another inch.

O course there is an upper limit to this solution, otherwise we could just
get rid of the transmission (another source of noise) and let the big fan
(also known as an airplane propeller) pull the car along. I recall that this
experiment was tried in "The Man With the Golden Gun". That car clearly had
very bad valve rattle since they had to install two fans (or was it turines)
to cover the noise.

Hmmm.. Reading this note I now realise that I must drink my morning coffee
before responding to the list.

That 8hp myth is measured at 8000 rpm or some such.

But, it's easy enough to find out for yourself, just unbolt the fan and
go
for a spin. Even if it's only 5hp, that's a 5% increase in power, which
should be quite noticeable.

...

Didn't notice a thing, did you ?
