Seems to me we had a similar thread a couple of years ago, but it's worth
repeating. Mine was a 1959 Morris Minor van. Great vehicle! I got it at
the age of 17 in 1967 for GBP60, I believe. It was followed by a Ford
Popular (which I kept for a week - it had a noisy rear-end, which is
something I have been accused of, come to think of it...), a 1948 Morris
Minor 4-dr, and a 1966 Hillman Imp, which I drove until 1973 when I came to
the States. The '48 Minor and the Imp were the most fun. I could remove
the engine and transaxle from the Imp in about an hour. You simply put
jackstands under the engine and gearbox, removed the rear transmission mount
and crossmember (which was also the rear apron), the two front engine
mounts, the two donuts connecting the half shafts to the transaxle, cables,
pipes and wires, then pushed the car forward leaving the whole engine and
transmission sitting on the jackstands. And what an engine! SOHC, all
aluminum - I remember that I could easily carry the bare block in one hand.
Those were the days...
