Many British cars also had "fender skirts" as the Yanks called them.

Jaguar XK-1_0 cars had them.  They did not fit if the car had wire wheels as
the Rudge cap extended too far.  They fit on cars with stamped-steel wheels.

As I recall, the Lotus Six cars also had full skirts on the rear wheels.
