This has also happened to me in my GT6 (plate GTSIX 68), but it works both 
ways.  I didn't have my JIMS TR4 plate on my other car very long, and when 
someone would stop next to me and say ...nice car Jim!, I would look at them 
and wonder...do I know you?  It wasn't until this happened 3 or 4 times that I 
realised that they got my name from the plate...duh!
