My Sprite, which has side curtains, actually doesn't seem much (if
any) louder than my TR4 with roll-up windows. However, my experience
with both in top up conditions is very limited. I've actually only
driven the TR4 with the top up twice.
I also have another side curtain vehicle - my 2000 Jeep Wrangler, and
it *is* deafening with the top up and the side curtains in place. I
actually wear ear plugs when driving on the interstate for extended
periods to protect my ears from the wind noise... so it's not just an
old British car thing. ;)
