I had the vacuum advance go out on my TR4a many years ago, I could tell =
something was wrong, and I eventually figured out it was the vacuum =
advance, the car idled and ran fan, but made less power, and I think it =
was running hotter too, you could probably adjust the static advance to =
offset this somewhat, but there was a noticeable difference (if there =
wasn't I am sure I never would have figured out that it wasn't working, =
or at least it would have taken a long time to figure it out by a chance =
test of the vacuum advance unit.  At the time I didn't have a timing =
light to check how it advanced through the rev range and throttle =
settings.
