Just to add to what Bill Dalton says about over rev, I sheared the
flywheel bolts on my Sports 2000 at Elkhart last year and the engine
instantly peg'd the tach at 10,000. Thinking I had just missed a gear I
shifted and hit the throttle and again pegged the tach at 10,000. After
a third try and a pep'd tach I shut it off and coasted into 5.

Called Ted Wentz, builder and was told to check everything and if all
seemed to be ok put in new valve springs and rod bolts.

All was ok, and I put in new rod bearings as well since it was apart,
and things have been fine for 2 races. These are stock rods, not the
special ones allowed in S 2000 rules, running on a cast iron crank
(required by rules).

Rod bolts take a heck of a stress on an overrev.
