I think part of the problem is, where do you place a car that has an
oversize-significantly in some cases, engine? For example, say an SVRA Grp
6 '68 Camaro shows up with a big block or a NASCAR 358? ci 700hp engine-and
outruns the regular front-runners? Uh, well, in SVRA, you can move the car
to Grp 10 or what used to be Exhibition.
At the VIR Gold Cup Historics there may not be as many classes and
there may be no place to move such a car. I believe, opinion here, folks,
an event like the Gold Cup, tries to recreate the time when VIR was first
open. Back then, my 66 Yenko Stinger did not race with what is now like the
SVRA Grp 3-medium bore sports cars class. Therefore to recreate and
commemorate "in the day", at this event, my car is not wanted in the class
or race group-similar to Grp 3. (I wish they didn't want it in there
because I am so Unbelievably fast! ..;>) ... ). However, I am allowed to
race, I am placed with and race with essentially what is Grp 6. No big
deal-I can finish toward the back with the best of them ... ;>). I am happy
to be there on track!

A friend of mine just had a Bugeye rejected for the Gold Cup Historics at
VIR because it has a 1275 in it.
I'm told that the SCCA never sanctioned 1275s in Bugeyes, so they are not
vintage eligible. Peter Krause made the decision to reject this car and
apparently a few others. I can certainly understand his reasoning, and it
is certainly his prerogative.
