Bill I ran my Alpine for ten years on a 50/50 mix of grease and engine
oil in the steering box. It definitely slowed oil loss but never fully
stopped it. When I restored the car I took the box out and had a new
seal machined into the bottom of the box-Five years later still going
strong (and I just checked the oil level 30 mins ago)
