Treadwears of 280 to 350 are typical for most OEM cars.

Treadwears of less than 250 fall into the performance realm.

My Yoko A008RSII "DOT approved" road race tires have a
treadwear spec of 35, and I recieved a waiver to sign that

Maybe I've just been lucky, but the last two sets of tires on my Alpine were
Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R's, with a treadwear rating of 50. I got almost
30,000 miles from each set, in a mixture of highway and city miles, plus some
autocrosses, and even a few hours of heat-cycling at the local roadrace track.

If you're putting tires on a car that gets driven relatively few miles each
year, as most Alpines do these days, why not put a higher performance tire
on? Chances are the tires will harden long before the the tread wears out -
and the miles in between will be SO much more enjoyable and safe.
