On the MGB V-8 BBS a few months ago on the same (T-5) issue, a rather
authoritative sounding posting quoted at least three different gearing
setups for GM T-5's, and also specified the torque ratings for various
boxes. Low gear varied from 3.75 to 2.95 I have seen in GM's own published
specs that there are very different gear ratios in the V-6 and V-8 boxes.

Although the most numerous wrecking yard T-5's may be in the little pickups
and SUV's (S-10, etc.), these have the shift lever mounted forward on the
box, and at least on an MGB conversion, would have it come out of the trans
tunnel about where the radio console is.

Re: the T56 box - again on the MGB V8 BBS, a guy said he had just obtained
a T56 and wanted to put it behind a Rover V8 conversion in his B. After
responses (confirming the earlier one here), about the massive size and
weight of the thing, he was soon advertising it for sale.
