As most of the list knows, I have wanted a 67.5 2000 for some time now.
While Craig's analysis is interesting, I have to respectfully disagree with
the premise of the car's overall value in light of the individual
components.

ANY car is worth more in parts than in total with the obvious exception of
some very high end cars. Look at any car driving down the road today - even
an old, worn out, unloved chevy pickup. The engine would be worth $500 if
running (without the carb or accessories - those add to the value), the
transmission worth $250, the rear end $250, etc, etc, etc. With those three
items we are already up to $1000, but you can find a $500 chevy truck almost
anywhere that will drive you anywhere that you want to go.

Yes, if you part it out, then the value proposition is different, but the
complete car is worth less than the sum of the parts. Using a 67.5 2000 as
an example, if you had a mint car and sold it for the component parts, you
would EASILY get more than the value of the car that is whole. The
practical application of my premise is happening on Ebay right now. The car
was offered for sale for MUCH less than the owner will be making by parting
it out.

I could be off base, but the above is based on my experiences with cars over
the past 2 decades.

Just my $.02 worth.

Sid
