Hi Graeme, I have an O2 sensor port (bung) in my collector for just such a
purpose when I had the car on the dyno.  It helped spot a dangerous lean
condition at one time... very important on this motor as it is 11.7 to 1
compression... don't want any detonation!  I used to have a cheaper version of
an A/F monitoring system (not the wideband) but it was just not that
accurate.

You could always fit an O2 sensor to your exhaust headers to assist in fine
tuning the carbs.
Even though the system can't dynamically adjust the AFR whilest operating,
it may still run appreciably cleaner than normal.
I intend to fit an O2 sensor to my '65 just for tuning purposes, then
disconnect or hide the gauge in the glove box for normal
