I don't know if Mirek's Rey went to the list or just a few of us but he
makes the excellent  point that once oriented correctly the gearbox should
snug up to the rear plate pretty easily and one definitely should not need
to use 3" bolts to pull the gearbox into place.

This suggests that either the pilot bushing was in some way damaged during
earlier removal of the transmission  or that the input shaft is of
different pattern or dimensions than its predecessor.  Please do not ask
how I know....
