It definately PAYS to inquire with the rules committee before nearly ANY change
to your vehicle, a few years ago the motorcycle engine classes went from
1300cc, followed by 2000cc, and I had a 1327cc which meant I ran in the 2000cc
class, we spent an arm and a leg to by a new aftermarket block and pistons
(couldnt sleeve this block down with what was available) to get my displacement
30cc lower, came to Bonneville with a 1297cc to run in the 1300cc class and they
said guess what we changed the class to 1350cc. I attended a rules meeting 2
years ago in which overbore was discussed, the vintage engines were allowed .050
overbore, I asked why I could not and was STERNLY informed that that is what I
get for running a bike who's stock displacement is so close to the class limit,
we are running in the 1000cc class and stock displacement is 998cc meaning that
I cannot even run a well worn stock cylinder, so I again had to pay an arm and a
leg to have JE make custom stock bore pistons (they only shelf overbore pistons)
and I show up this year at Bonneville and they say guess what we changed the
rules so all classes except Prod. can run .020 beyond that which provides
maximum displacement for the class, I was so thrilled, Guess I will be making
many more calls to the tech people before I make changes or spend lots of money,
even if I think I have a grasp of what I think are the current rules
Joe :)
