Can someone enlighten me on why the huge proliferation of classes between
1970, when there were something like 70 classes, and the number today? I
was away from the salt trying to run a couple of stores and starting a new
one while all that happened. I know they retired some records from the 60's
because they changed the displacement breaks and added more classes that
way. I'm sure part of it was the increase in displacement of the new
engines. Life was simpler when it was mostly just Ford flatheads and
Chevrolet sixes.
