What follows is purely an opinion.
With regard to vehicle weight and spring dampening, it
should be remembered that you are dampening springs
with shock absorbers, not the entire vehicle. Whatever
effect weight may have on springs, it is secondary to
the work dampers do to control spring oscillation. So,
even if you have a 10,000-pound car, dampers are only
responsible for controlling spring activity. Even with
a 10,000-pound car, there will be spring movement
(oscillation). Weight should have very little effect
with a dampers ability to control spring movement.
With regard to springs; If you see there is too much
vertical chassis travel, increase spring rate. There
should be no need to scrap a suspended front or rear
end because of excessive suspension travel. With solid
mount front ends, you still have some chassis flex and
the un-dampened spring rate of tires. Is it any wonder
some solid axle cars hunt for direction?
