Well Im certainly not going to argue with Skip since he knows
more about our cars than i ever will but....
I was always taught that  proper airflow was a matter of "balance"
and that the secret is to have the air intake match the exhaust output
as closely as possible - for example, when i replaced the stock exhaust
system on my GT with a Monza, the car ran horribly, couldnt work out
why for ages until a pal pointed out that the stock air filters retard
air intake too much for a monza system - i switched to a K+N and voila! -
performance restored
Similarly i have stock air filters on the 69 and a $30 exhaust box which
runs much better than it did with the clapped out "performance one it had
before.
Im sure Skip and others can explain it better but its balance
man.....balance
