I'd said worn thrust washers too 'cept for the clicking noise.

Been there, done that.

Like Harlan goes on to say though, you'd expect a drop in oil pressure
(if a spun bearing) unless the engine was already worn...  The clincher 
would be a loss of power on the top end.

Guess more info would help.
