i bought this car in Nov (for my wife), i'd never even ridden in a
LBC before..

when i first cranked it i decided what i was hearing was a need for
the valves to be adjusted..

it seemed to me that *one* in particular had too much slack and was
"slapping" some..

anyway, last week my Lotus building friend and myself adjusted the
valves (cold engine, .015)--imagine my disappointment when it
sounded just about the same when it was started..

my friend theorizes that the noise is coming from a worn cam lobe..
he said he thought the area just after the valve full open peak has
been worn down and is allowing the lifter to "slam" down onto the
cam, rather than "ride" in contact with the cam..

so, we've made plans to pull the engine and replace the cam this
winter..(and do whatever else in there should be done)

i'm wondering if anyone here might have a different thought...
for example, the lifters--are they "hydraulic" or "solid"?--i
remember once putting some "magic" liquid in my old '55 chevy 6-cyl
to free up a "stuck" lifter, and quiet that beauty ..
