Conditions vary depending on what year the engine is.

Id first check the idle speed with a separate tach meter and reduce it. 
The slower the engine is running at idle, the more likely it is to quit
when shut off.  The tach in the car could be off causing you to set the
idle to fast.

Changing fuel might help.

If the car has emission controls, there are several things which will
cause after run.
