Yes, a conversion to an MGA set of diff gears can achieve the desired
results. It isn't a simple swap, but requires some engineering talent and
tools to accomplish, plus specialized knowledge. University Motors (and
others) used to do the conversion for around $800 plus parts.
Many people have gone with the 4.3:1 gear set and like it, but I find this
is really only good for straight and level cruising. I find the 4.55:1 set
to be a better compromise for all-around driving and hill climbing.
