Hi Will,
I have a 1960 Plus 4 which has recently had a full engine rebuild.
Included in the rebuild was the fitting of air filters to the carbs and the
addition of a "Super Sports" scoop to the bonnet.
Why?? Well when you spend a lot of money on a rebuild, it is not much use
issuing an open invitation for engine damage to occur by not fitting maximum
protection - in my case this even ran to the fitting of an oil cooler.
So the car is not "as per concours!" - but so what. It is a car that is
intended to be used.
I am reminded of Peter Morgan's words in a Miscellany article last year when
the owner of a 4/4 who had previously been associated with the Morgan Le
Mans effort asked for his car to be restored. From the article I gather
Peter Morgan's words were, "What do you want it restored as? So a Le Mans
replica Plus 4 was produced.
Morgans are meant to be enjoyed - anything, within reason which increases
the enjoyment and the driver's peace of mind should surely be acceptable.
We have a PLus 8 in New Zealand with a bonnet scoop - and that was added at
the factory during the build because the owner wanted it.
What more can be said?
Best regards from New Zealand.
Gary Moles.
