It is true that the senders are not available and that none of the commonly
available units will work . The TT 1200 sender was only used in Morgans,
early 50s Bentleys and, I believe, MG Magnettes. We have been able to
successfully repair the sending units, (most of the time). The normal
factory installed location for the senders was the radiator , not the
thermostat housing. If you have the original sender it will have the number
TT 1200/__ on the bass bulb that projects into the water. If you would
like use to try to repair it the charge would be $127.00. For the labor
time required to take the sender apart repair it , put it back together and
tests it. Unfortunatly I cannot guarranttee that we will be succesful.
Another option that I can guarranttee is to convert the gauge to another
internal mechanism. This convertion costs about $165. 00 and includes a
voltage stabilizer and a sending unit. The gauge ends up looking the same
to the viewer, except for working! It may not read exactly in the ranges
that we might like , but it will be consistent in its reading and useful as
a monitor of engine temperature.
