Not sure about the gel, but the silica chips--the stuff that comes in those
very small packages that comes in shipment--can be purchases in quart size
cans. We use it for our dry air system at work that provides air to our
satellite systems RF wafeguides. Only problem with it is when it absorbs
all the moisture it can, it has to be heated to evaporate trapped moisture
and then reuse. It changes color when full of moisture (pink) and when
dried it is blue.
If we leave it in the open air, it'll change to pink with in hours and will
not absorb any more. So I think this may not be the way to go for you as
you'd have to constantly monitor the status of it, and you'd probably have
to have so much of it, it would be cost prohibitive.
Not sure if something like cat-litter would work, someone mentioned a bad
of cement. There's got be a better product for you to use-- i'll search
around a bit and see what is i can find. --wayne
