Not to belabor the point. My old company NALCO Chemical
which specializes in water treatment sells a wonderful line
of cooling system cleaners, anti-fungicides, and anti-algaecides.
They are used in the treatment for the electric utilities, in particular
the nuke plants. You don't want to clean those pipes!

We make 2 good auto products sold by Penray Corp. (1) Cooltech
which comes in a quart container. Add it to your system and drive
on it for at least a week. It will dissolve almost anything and allow
it to be flushed. The down side is that if your heater core is not
leaking because corrosion has plugged the leak, it will now leak.
(2) Cooltech 2 (NALCO was never one for marketing skills). This
product contains silver azide and other magical ingredients. It
will prevent silicon participates from forming. These participates form
when water and silicon mix with heat. That green goo you see in
your Gano filter is a silicon participate courtesy Prestone. This
silicate will not dissolve in the ordinary radiator quick flush. Some
bits of the silicates are very abrasive to the water pump, etc. Given
time Cooltech will dissolve them. By keeping the silicon in solution
Cooltech 2 stops the problem.

Cost for Cooltech is about $4 and Cooltech 2 anout $2. If your parts
store does not carry Penray, try a truck repair facility.

More than your probably wanted to know.
