RUST.
There was a coating on the manifold when the cars were new, but it burned
off soon after you took delivery.
Many folks paint there's with a hi-temp color called "cast iron"... you
can get it from Eastwood or from any store that sells duplicolor. Some
folks powder coat 'em, but I think that's over-restoring and would deduct
points if I saw it under a bonnet.
