It's not quite as black and white (heh) as that, Pat.

"If I can't possibly ever win, then I'll eventually get discouraged and stop
coming" is probably more like it.

Anybody that shows up for one race, gets beaten, and then refuses to come back
because of sour grapes because they got beat is no loss to the sport. What we
have to watch out for are (1)the people who show up and are beaten so badly that
they don't see how they could ever possibly win, or (2)the people who show up
year after year, keep plugging away, and never get a fair shake.

#1 is the STU schenario, and it's based on car prep level, and cost, and
streetability issues.

#2 is what something like "Vette Stock" is supposed to address.
