This accident was very unusual in it's entirety.  The reaction of Greg Moore
to avoid the outside wall was to hit the throttle when the tail came out,
which was a good move.  He probably just stayed in the throttle a little
too long which sent him sliding uncontrollably toward the inside wall
and that asphalt drive strip he went across may have launched the car.
He actually might have survived had he hit the outer wall because he 
would not have hit with the open cockpit first.
