I don't know who the company that does the work is, but I know a Ford
restorer in town that sends off old radios and a company converts them with
modern guts.  The push buttons can be used to control remote cd changers and
everything.  Probably expensive, but sure sounds neat.

Anybody know a direct source for this kind of thing?

There's a product idea for our enterprising vendors...A console fascia
panel with a pre-cut opening for a  DIN sized head unit.  Save your
original console, buy our replacement panel! available in black wrinkle
finish, primer, or carbon fiber for those who like that sort of thing.
    I guess us high-screen folks are probably out of luck.
