I have followed with interest the questions on the list lately regarding
knock-off on the Rudge wheel hubs.
Contrary to almost all belief the wheel does not drive on the splines, it
drives on the 45degree angle at the back,[ this is why this flange should
be
wiped clean of excess grease] as you tighten the knock-off it drives the
wheel onto the hub and up against the flange.
All my life, and even back into the forties and fifties EVERYONE ALWAYS
said,"knock the bastard up as tight as you can" it is far cheaper to buy
another spinner with damaging the ears than it is to replace a vehicle
after
losing a wheel.
I would not care if I had to purchase another set of spinners every year,
as
I only pay 9 Sterling pounds each for them anyway,and a new Thor
copper/hide
hammer is 8pounds..........so........myself I fully intend to keep bashing
away.
