Pure bullshit. I'm not aware of any state banning older cars (I live in
California,
where any such action would likely happen first). In fact the current craze is
for
the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s ... big engines and big polluters.
There's big money in "heavy polluting classic cars of 25 years old and over"
(just ask Craig Jackson, of Barrett-Jackson fame). Any politician trying to
ban
older cars would be out of a job (anywhere except in Berkeley, CA ;)
In a rare case of political common sense, 1968(?) and older cars have been
exempt from smog tests in California for several years.
I used to occasionally get a letter from the DMV offering me $500 dollars to
scrap my "older polluter." I wrote them back telling them I might consider
$50,000 ... haven't heard from them since.
My car is always well-received, even by "green" types. The only negative,
pollution-related comment came from a fruitcake in Oregon. I told him to
stick it where the sun don't shine, and he shut up.
