I'm kind of late to this thread - computer problems - but you should be
able to get a rebuilt engine cheaper than $2k.  I believe Glen Towery
sells rebuilt B engines for about $1000.  With the computer problems
I've lost his e-mail address, but his phone number is 302-734-1243. 
He's in Cheswold, Del.  He's the guy from whom I bought most of my V8
conversion stuff, but he does regular B stuff too.
