They are water-permeable.
I bought a second-hand (original) tonneau cover for Carly for a tenner.
50% of the poppers were in the right place, so I had to add only a few
others. I also added some proprietary metal eyelets for the front four
attachment points, as the old material has a tendency to split under
tension. I can't remember what the eyelets are called, but Richard
knows, and he'll be along in a minute...
The most important thing was to buy a can of Fabsil (waterproofing spray
as used on tents) - as I discovered the first time I left the tonneau
cover on overnight and it rained heavily. :-)
