Hi Mike,
Sorry for the late reply - I've been trading and partying at the TSSC
International since Friday! Have you ever had to replace a seal which has been
previously sealed with silicone sealant? It's impervious to most solvents (are
there any which work?) and sticks VERY firmly. A long slow (and sometimes
painful) job with a razor blade. Bearing in mind that most modern seals will
last no more than 5 years on a daily driver that lives outside in all weathers,
fitting the seal next time round always figures in my thinking,
    Cheers,
        Bill.
