Hey Mark,

I'm no expert, but I've pulled 3 different engines a total of five times
now and I've had four of the pushrods stay in the block and four in the
head everytime I've pulled a head (total of five or six times now)

When I'm pulling out engines to be rebuilt or disassembled, I pull the head
off, then I pull the engine without the tranny. Once the engine is out and
on the rolling lift I put a two by twelve across the legs of the lift and
set the engine down on that. Then I pull the clutch and flywheel. At that
point I can carry the block around. It's heavy, but I can manage it.

Today, by myself, I pulled my engine, took off the clutch, flywheel, and
backplate, messed with new gaskets for the sump and oil pump. Fiddled with
the rear seal, reassembled everything and installed the engine in the car
again. It got dark before I could hook up the radiator but other than that
it's pretty close to being done.  My girlfriend did help steer the engine
hoist when I reinstalled it. That's the kind of girl a guy just has to
marry.

Not bad for an 11:30 to 6:00 day. I need to head to Sears now to find a tap
for that NAPA PCV valve. Does anyone know off the top of their head the
size drill bit and tap needed for this operation? I'm gonna be here for a
half an hour or so, if anyone has that info

I'll keep everyone posted on my progress. Thanks to everyone for their help
and advice  and to Mark and Ed for their offers of physical help.

Man am I ever sore and tired. If it takes up all of your spare time and
money is it still called a hobby??
