Pretty much any time my TR runs poorly (which is pretty much all the
time--well, when it's running...) I look for leaking air. I'm continually
amazed at all the leaks I find, long after I was *sure* I'd fixed the last
one. Once I fixed all the air leaks. But then the float bowl stuck open...

Right.

I'm pretty sure you must loosen the retaining screw and then retighten it
even for small adjustments. That is, I think it's fine to run the car for a
couple of hours while you tune it up and drive it around; but when you're
through, tighten it all back up again until next time. Once you have the
pistons out and see this adjustment screw, I think you'll see that it's
either too tight for the needle to move or loose enough that the retaining
screw would eventually fall out if left that way. I expect it was just an
oversight in the manual, or somewhere in a note in another section there's a
note mentioning the retaining screw.

The o-rings are quite easy to replace--but it's impossible to tell you how
to do it. I tried once. No, seriously, I'll look through my old mail and
try to find the procedure description. I'll send it privately, though,
because it's long and tedious. But the job is easy.

Oh, I bet Scott will be so disappointed... :-)

Good luck!
