Inside the frame is a catch on each side.  It's usually covered by a
rubber
grommet inside the cabin, just between your legs if siting in the seat. 
It's often said TR's were one of the only cars where you could jack up,
without ever going outside (but only if you kept the jack in the wrong
place).  Changed many, the first time around.

was bowl-shaped, and its rim diameter was larger than the hole so it
would fit in place and not fall through. There was a piece of spring
steel that ran across the top of the plug and then though a slot in

gripped the underside of the floorpan, holding the plug in place. The
spring steel was fastened to the plug by a rivet at one end.
