Just thought I'd add my two cents (shillings, etc. insert currency of
choice). While most of the thread about the max HP of either unit is
correct, i.e. one is not that much better than the other, one of the things
that the Dyno and all the HP charts don't show, and one of the reasons that
weber conversions are so popular has do do with throttle response. With a
weber or other non-constant depression carb. you have a much more responsive
feel. When you 'kick it in th pants' unlike a constant depression carb. the
in-rush of air (wide open throttle) and resulting squirt of fuel (properly
calibrated acceleration punp squirt) yeilds a more instant response than
waiting for the engine to 'suck' the same volume against the dampened piston
in the carb. Actually not that much unlike a throttle body fuel injection.
(which basically is what that is and among other things why fuel injection
is much superior). Only time to speed (0-30, 60 etc.) will determine the
difference - its not so much total HP but time to total HP that you feel.
